I have written in defense of liberal democracy as a Christian project, a kind of Christendom 2.0, where civic order is balanced with civil rights as framed in light of Christianized political commitments.

However, the inherent weakness of liberal democracy, a society that believes in maximizing human freedom, is that human beings are free for near-infinite self-expressions and to adopt ideologies that may even seek to terminate the existence of the liberal democratic order.

Thus, the liberality of a liberal democracy can result in fragmentation and fratricide!

Unless freedom is married to a sense of collective identity and shared values, liberal societies promote a constellation of identities and ideologies that can foster militantly opposing views of a just and prosperous society.
