Luke clearly is the evangelist with a big concern for the poor, women, widows, outsiders, outcasts, which translates into an obvious application for similar concerns today and even amounts to support for projects that we might call works of charity and social justice. However, Luke also believed in eternal life, the future kingdom of God, deliverance from the demonic, the dangers of a final judgment, saving one’s soul from hell, and the need to have one’s sins pardoned. So, for Luke, it is equally true to say that salvation is very much about a standing before God, about an eternal future, and touches upon the fate of the soul as much as the present body.
