News of the Week
European Elections. In the European election results, there were all sorts of fears about a far-right take-over of Europe. Now France did see a bit of a far-right surge in Marine Le Pen’s Rassemblement national getting 31% of the vote, but the AfD (Alternative of Germany) did not rise to alarming levels. On the whole, the European Parliament skews centre-right, not far-right. The primary reason: immigration!
The SBC, Women, Nicene Creed, and IVF. The SBC’s convention in Indianapolis had a bit of drama. A law amendment was defeated which would have banned any woman from being called a “pastor.” There was debate about whether to add the Nicene Creed to the SBC’s doctrinal statement which was sent up for consideration (even though a presidential candidate rejected it). And a peculiar motion against IVF treatment.
