News of the Week and New Video
I have a new boss next year. I'm off to Singapore. The Maranatha Prayer. My vendetta against the gambling cartels. Cornel West gets interviewed by Aussie TV show. All that and more!
This Week
I’m proud to announce that my colleague Rev. Dr. Rhys Bezzant was appointed as the 10th principal of Ridley College, which is great news, as Rhys is a terrific teacher, mentor, and leader. I look forward to working with Rhys.
Check out my interview with Ridley student Lachlan Vines about his award-winning essay on Rowan Williams’ and his doctrine of revelation.
Over at Christianity Today, my co-author N.T. Wright was interviewed about our book Jesus and the Powers, as to why Christians need a basic grasp of political theology, do check it out.
I despise the gambling cartels in this country, so I made a video warning people about these predacious organizations and their strategies to maximize gambling addiction.
Tomorrow, I am off to Singapore to visit Singapore Bible College and Adam Road Presbyterian Church to speak at a conference about the Bible. I discovered that Singaporean advice to tourists warns against "walking around topless" and "public displays of narcissism." I'm going to need more clothes and perhaps an attitude adjustment.
New Video
In this video, I go through 1 Corinthian 16:22 with the maranatha prayer and explore what it says about Jesus. It’s a prayer pregnant with a lot of meaning!
News of the Week
How an Iranian agent Infiltrated a US College. Oh boy, this is what happens when you substitute confirmation bias for due diligence. Iranian human rights activists finally succeeded in getting a former Iranian diplomat expelled from Oberlin College for his role in Iran’s violence against political dissidents.
Australia’s program “Planet America,” about US politics, interviewed theologian and US presidential candidate Cornel West. Note, the fact that Kamala Harris is the Democratic nominee does not dissuade him from running. He’s concerned about genocide in Gaza and capitalism destroying the poor.
Mr. Bean on Freedom of Speech. Actor Rowan Atkinson gives an amazing speech about the need to defend free speech against British PM Keir Starmer’s censorship policies.
Ukraine mounts a bold incursion into Russia. Victory in warfare is about deception and surprise. Ukrainian forces had both when they made a modest but not insignificant incursion into Russian territory. This humiliates Putin and his generals, takes pressure off the eastern front, gives Ukraine’s allies assurance that they can win battles, and raises Ukrainian morale.
Free audio commentary below, only 5 minutes!
Note that Rowan Atkinson's video dates from 2012. It's just as relevant now, of course, but it wasn't aimed at our new Labour government (or indeed supporting the Paris Olympics :-) )
