I was saddened to hear of the passing of Dr. Gordon D. Fee (1934-2022).
There is an obituary by Regent College that I recommend.
In sum, Fee was perhaps one of the important evangelical biblical scholars in the latter half of the twentieth century. He ranks up there with F.F. Bruce and Howard Marshall as trailblazers who showed that evangelicals could be world leaders in New Testament exegesis.
His commentaries on 1 Corinthians, Philippians, and Revelation are top-notch. Then there are his studies of Paul’s pneumatology and christology. He also wrote a best-selling book with Douglas Stuart called How to Read the Bible for All its Worth, which is still a terrific read.
I had the pleasure of working with him on his Revelation commentary for the New Covenant Commentary Series, which was a treat.
Fee was an ordained AOG pastor, a committed egalitarian, and a much-loved professor, who combined deep piety with rigorous scholarship.
May he rest in peace and rise in glory!
Fitting praise for an outstanding scholar who has been a help to me since my early days in ministry!!! Ditto to your comments! Could not agree more!
