You might be wondering what on earth does the Book of Revelation have to do with Critical Theory? That might sound like getting Harvard’s Professor of Anti-White-Heterosexual-Male Studies to have a discussion with John of Patmos which would be weird.
But, I submit to you, that if critical theory is about exposing the structures of oppression and prejudice, then it dovetails nicely with the Book of Revelation where John unmasks the Roman empire as propped up by Satan.
In fact, I did a terrific interview with Dr. Chris Watkin on this that I warmly commend to you!
Such a helpful interview and Chris is such a winsome and clear expounder.
Standouts for me: 1. the need for propositions of Redemption to make sense of critical thinking about our societies and 2. The unpacking of Revelation and its criticism of church and society (Rome and ours) with the pointing to the new City and 3. The understanding of our divided positions of prostitution to our money or our bodies and the unified critique of Revelation.
How might these things address my own behaviour and then my teaching of others. Thank you Chris and Mike.
