Tribalism, whether political or ethnic, always has bad effects on the church. Time to remember that what unites us is infinitely more powerful than anything that might divide us. In my view Christians should be, socially and politically, a “third race” that defies the cultural binaries and tribalism around us.

Wednesday: My Top 7 Reads on the Book of Revelation (Free sign-ups)
I’ve been doing a lot of study on Revelation recently and I’m learning to appreciate several authors and the perspectives that they offer. So I have a few favourites here and a few inclusions that might surprise you!

Friday: Christianity and Ancient Ruler Cults (Subscribers)
Here’s a sneak peek of something I’m working on, comparing ancient ruler cults (i.e., worship of Alexander the Great and the Roman emperor Augustus) with early devotion to Jesus as a God. Some truly cool stuff here!

Okay, my daughter, Alexis Bird, makes her maiden appearance on her Dad’s substack page with her own view of Beth Allison Barr’s book. Apple did not fall far from the tree (though it is always better dressed and has more social skills than the tree).
