This Week in Word from the Bird
Sexual Abuse Documentary. MAGA and Myanmar. Theology and Disability. Dane Ortlund on Protestantism. Tell Me What You Want!
Monday: For Our Daughters Review (Free Sign-Ups)
I watched the doco about sexual abuse and cover-ups in the church. I had a lot of thoughts, so did my wife, and so did Aimee Byrd.
Tuesday: What Does MAGA have to do with Myanmar? (Paid Subscribers)
Religious nationalists, whether Buddhist or Christian, can find violence and autocracy as something that unites them against democracy.
Word from the Bird is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Wednesday: Enabling the Whole Church (Free Sign-Ups).
My talk at the Jesus Club conference on disability, inclusion, and belonging.
Thursday: Gavin Ortlund and the Case for Protestantism (Paid Subscribers)
Ortlund gives a fair and nuanced case for scriptural authority and a biting critique of papal supremacy. But, in hindsight, I do have some questions for him!
Friday: What Do You Want to Read? (Free Sign-Ups)
As I continue to develop and refine Word from the Bird, I want to hear from readers and subscribers as to what kind of content they want to read.
As someone who has been deeply involved in Myanmar since 2007, I look forward to what you have to say about the country and the people.
I haven’t watched documentary yet (so busy) but I watched the interview with Aimee Byrd and I’m sure it’s not easy to watch. But I think all denominations should watch even Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic because abuse is a multi- denominational problem. I hope more and more reputable names in the American Evangelical church( especially complimentarian camp) speak out about abuse and do what is right before God. Scripture is clear that judgement begins in the house of God.
