This Week in Word from the Bird
Baptism that Unites. My First Response to Mike Winger. The First Christian Hymn. The Emperor Elagablus. The Church of the Holy Peace.
I’m on holiday enjoying time with family, watching tennis, and a cold Coca-Cola in the shade. But I’m still reading, blogging, and writing as the opportunity permits.
Monday: The Case for Dual-Mode Baptism Practice (Free Sign-Ups)
Why shouldn’t your church baptize both babies and adults? Is there a way for some churches to practice a both-and approach on baptism so that the waters which divide become one stream?
Tuesday: Mike Winger WRONG About Women and the Church (Aviary Members)
Mike Winger is a US pastor with a YouTube channel called Think Biblically. While he covers a lot of topics, he is best known for his massive 40+ hours of videos on Complementarianism. Such videos are getting viewed even in my own church in Australia so I need to pay attention and offer an alternative. This will be part one of several posts/videos, interacting with Mike Winger. The first draft will be for members of the Aviary, but a free version and YouTube video will come out sometime in the future.
Hey, consider becoming a member of the Aviary for the new year, get early access, exclusive material, and premium content!
Wednesday: What Was Early Christian Worship? (Free Sign-Ups).
How did the first Christians worship? Also, have you heard about John Dickson’s project to reanimate the first recoverable Christian hymn from antiquity?
Thursday: The Emperor Elegabalus (Aviary Members)
I’m writing a book about the Roman Empire in the third century, which is why Gladiator II really irked me, and here I give a preview of the draft section on the emperor Elagabalus who was a religious revolutionary as well as what we would call today sexually fluid.
Friday: The Nicene Creed and the Church of the Hagia Irene (Aviary Members)
A video about my visit to the Hagia Irene where the Council of Constantinople (AD 381) was held and the Nicene Creed was updated and re-issued!
