This Week in Word from the Bird
Acts Commentaries. The Christos in Ephesus. Saved from our Sins at Christmas. The Primacy of Peter? Paul in Tarsus.
I am recovering from jet lag and am back into work to finalize the academic year and prepare for next year. So we’ve been farewelling Brian Rosner as Ridley’s principal and preparing for the accession of Rhys Bezzant as the next Ridley principal. Also, a very exciting digital project is on the horizon, launching in January, stay tuned!
Monday: Recommended Acts Commentaries (Free Sign-Ups)
My exploration of some good resources on the Book of Acts.
Tuesday: The Christos in Ephesus (Free Sign-Ups)
A video of my 15-minute lecture delivered on the steps of Celsus’ library in Ephesus about Acts 19, Ephesians, and Ignatius’ letter to the Ephesians.
Hey, consider becoming a member of the Aviary for the new year, get early access, exclusive material, and premium content!
Wednesday: Saved from our Sins (Free Sign-Ups).
I unpack the verse: She will bear a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” in Matt 1:21.
Thursday: The Primacy of St. Peter? (Aviary Members)
A jump into Matt 16:18-19 about Peter as the “rock” of the church. But I argue - in good Protestant fashion - Peter might be the exemplary convert, confessor, and martyr, a rock and means of revelation, but Jesus alone is the chief cornerstone.
Friday: Paul in Tarsus (Aviary Members)
A short video on the significance of Tarsus as the background to Paul’s ministry.
I cannot wait to read and see these!
As a Ridley student (D Min), plus doing some Ridley Certificate stuff with my home group) really looking forward to the announcement in January!
