The other day I was reading an essay by German scholar Hans Dieter Betz and he made a very interesting point about how religious visions lead to liturgical acts like hymns and hymns, in turn, generate theology.

Wednesday: John MacArthur on Slavery (Free Sign-Ups)
Back in 2012 John Macarthur said, with a straight face, “It is a little strange that we have such an aversion to slavery because historically there have been abuses. There have been abuses, there have been abuses in marriage, we don’t have an aversion to marriage particularly.” He then goes to say that for some slaves “working for a gentle, caring, loving master was the best of all possible worlds.”

Progressive theologians I think are often right, God has to be at least as nice as Jesus, but sometimes, rather than faith seeking understanding, progressive theology is progressive politics seeking religious capital.
