Okay friends, I’m beta-testing the idea of writing a history of the Roman empire from the late second century to the early fourth century (i.e., from Pertinax [193] to Constantine [337]).
Thanks- this was great. Audio format is also a bonus!
There are some great snippets in the history of the emperors - Diocletian, that major persecutor of Christians - has his mausoleum in Croatia's Split, but it was eventually converted to a Church, and still is a Church. The Archaeological museum in Split (behind Diocletian's palace, has a great outdoor area filled with an impressive epigraphic collection).
It would be great to hear more about the Battle of the Milvian Bridge, no doubt for a later episode, and about the Arch of Constantine.
It would also be interesting to explore the role of Theodosius, though later than Constantine, in establishing Christianity as a state religion.

James, glad you liked it, I won't go beyond Constantine, but more to come on the topic.
