Great post, Mike; I'm fascinated by the real stories behind people's topics. The short version of my PhD journey was that I was becoming interested in an emerging method (missional hermeneutics) and applied it to a text that hadn't been explored with it yet (the book of Job).
Pretty sure i wont get to this level before the university/ tutors/ my own computer tell me I'm not clever enough to keep going, but very interesting to see a bit of the process that goes through selection of a topic.
