Great post Dr. Bird!! I just started read a book related to to the topic of a post-truth world etc. titled Scrolling ourselves to Death: Reclaiming Life in a Digital Age edited by Bret McCracken and Ivan Mesa published by Crossway. I think every serious Christian needs to read this book.

Brilliant! The undeniable truth is often hard to bear and left in the dark (ignored, denied, blame). God’s truth is hardest to embrace when the light shines quite pointedly. Let there be light and humility to face it.

Alas, not lies - all painfully true. All plainly and shockingly, objectively real and varifiable.

It is also true that a common psychological defense mechanism is to deny a truth when it is too painful to name- and that evokes genuine empathy from me- I have worked with trauma survivors for decades.

At some point every single one of us has a responsibility to see and speak the truth.

But, Why?... . Just as for huge swathes of history people stayed unforgivably silent when Jewish people were being horribly persecuted, that same silence, which has caused so much generational pain and suffering for the Jewish people, cannot be allowed to facilitate a similar suffering for the Palestinian people.

With 70 % destruction of all infrastructure and housing in Gaza (the worlds most populated enclave : 40- 50 % them children), what other term can be used but ethnic cleansing??

Jesus weeps.... and weeps again....

'Israel is violating the laws of armed conflict in its military actions'

Such as, for instance?

Well....

1/ By starving an entire population to death.

2/ By Dropping bombs to target a couple of terrorists knowing that over 100 Palestinian children will also die.

3/ By allowing up to 700,000 settlers to occupy land that is no theirs....

You might think the Gaza war is morally complex, perhaps because of the way it has been reported in the west. Israel is morally quite clear on what it is doing and, unlike its enemies, is trying to fight the war according to international rules.

1. That is a lie. They are not starving. The humanitarian aid that is getting there is being taken by Hamas and being sold on the black market. Hamas is starving their people.

2. Another lie. Israel never drops bombs on a target of terrorists knowing that 100 Gazan children will die. Quite the contrary, Hamas will break all the military rules and use women and children as human shields by placing their arms, rockets etc in schools, hospitals and homes.

3. The land the settlers occupy is at least disputed, but they claim to be theirs by law.

Good word.

It reminds of another good quotation from another good show: Chernobyl

"What is the cost of lies? It's not that we'll mistake them for the truth. The real danger is that if we hear enough lies, then we no longer recognize the truth at all. What can we do then? What else is left but to abandon even the hope of truth and content ourselves instead with stories? In these stories, it doesn't matter who the heroes are. All we want to know is: "Who is to blame?" "
