I’m not a Jordan Peterson fan, but I am intrigued by the Jordan Peterson phenomenon, precisely, how Peterson is garnering a following by rejecting certain politically progressive dogmas and embodying a type of post-postmodern patriarchy.
I have seen too many people, churches, etc. feeding off 'redpilled'/'incel' psychology (Peterson says a lot of things that line up with it if not outright promote or form the basis for it) that props up a 'masculine' (really machismo) ideal. I have even run across many areas in the Christian manosphere (read a lot but not all complementarian circles) that use all Peterson et al, claim it is natural theology, add it to the fruit if Spirit (or take away from it and call them feminine) when its indistinguishable from God-less evolutionary psychology. It also never takes into account the Fall and how our natures are warped. Unfortunately, reading much of Christian manosphere made me insecure for awhile. Not being the John Wayne shoot from the hip, ask questions later, outdoorsy type and am rather short for a guy, I considered whether Peterson and other redpill-esque anecdotes were true and why I have been often rejected in dating. I am a perfect candidate for being an incel or red pilled but, I know it is not Christian. The views, the actions, etc. are not Christlike at all and I cannot and will not add to or take away the fruit of the Spirit. This led me to egalitarianism (though still fighting those insecurities that crop up from time to time) as CBE had great critiques of what I was seeing.
I have a theory that a lot of transgenderism stems from the rigid gender roles that complementarianism promotes. After all, for them only 'roles' matter not the actual sex of someone; evidently, only the role defines males or female.
Your last paragraph sums it all up for me! True masculinity, in my understanding, reflects the qualities of Christ the perfect man. It exhibits both the leadership, boldness, strength, righteous anger of Jesus on the one hand, but on the other his gentleness, empathy, love for children, and shedding of tears. The consummate leader is a servant leader (Mark 10:45) and one who grows the leadership, abilities and character of his followers, men and women. A "real man" has a love, deep respect for the work of his creator and the poor and underprivileged.
Thanks for this! Sorry for the rant but...
