Reading this article reminds me of just how good God's Israel and the Israel of God (ed by Bird and McKnight) is. Particularly the first two articles, by of all people, McKnight and Bird. Thankfully I was liberal with a highlighter, so I have been able to pull it out frequently and review a Reader's Digest version every time someone on twitter refers to supersessionism. You guys were at the top of your game. More of this type of thing.
Am not sure whether Romans 9-11 is on the mind of Sarah, the mother in Gaza, whom i spoke with today.... who is just hoping to be get some bread for her two small children....and not get shot in the head the in the attempt.
Is there any reckoning with the high probability that those who must insist on Israels favoured status might be emboldening and aiding the Genocide??
Jesus weeps... and weeps... and weeps...... weeps again......
This is for Sarah, Amir and Aaliyah, in Gaza, who I pray will still be alive tomorrow.....
I love Romans 9-11. I do think God values Israel in a unique way intrinsically. All the verses elsewhere about His love for them, engraved on the palm of His hand, could a mother not love her child, plus all the spiritual metaphors on faithfulness pretty well established that. To posit that His relationship with Israel is only instrumental misses all that. Which is also why I reject a *replacement* of Israel by the church. It's a bit deeper than that.

Chris - Has Israel violated moral issues in its response to Hamas? Yes! Are they responsible to God for that? Yes! Do we feel guilty about God's declared love for Israel or accuse God of fostering genocide? No. Those 2 realities are with us. Can we simply pray the people of Gaza get safely fed?
Can we simply pray the people of Gaza get safely fed?
Really? ...Does that seem to be working ??......
Alas, brother in Christ, 700,000 illegal settlers in the West Bank are there exactly because they are emboldened by this highly tenuous theology -and subsidised by groups in your country to further advance and perpetuate it.....!!!!
I like that idea that Israel has intrinsic value to God, not just instrumental value. I always ask 'Did God choose the Jews or just use the Jews?'

Christ Almighty....!!!
Brother, where art thou...????...
Jesus weeps............
We simply have different views. Probably this thread is not the place for further expounding on that.
A constructive review of these two books that gives me an appetite for reading them.
