This Week in Word from the Bird
New feature on my Substack. COE of conflicts. Why I'm not a Communist! 1 Enoch and the NT. Jesus in the maranatha prayer.
Another week ahead with a few juicy things to read and watch … I hope!
Monday: Introducing the Paideia Academy (Free Sign-Ups)
The Paideia Academy is where I house a lot of my online talks, videos, and lectures. Most of these are links to my YouTube videos which are already available for free, but soon there will be some fresh materials that I’ve especially recorded for the Paideia Academy, for members of the “Aviary.” I’m excited about this! I’m going to do a few talks on Jude and Philemon in the near future.
Tuesday: Gay Marriage and Lay Presidency in the Church of England? (Paid Subscribers)
The matters of same-sex marriage and lay presidency are part of a theological civil war in the Church of England between progressives and conservatives. To be sadly cynical, Same-Sex Marriage and Lay Presidency is how Anglicans engage in theological drone strikes against different factions in their contentious communion.
Word from the Bird is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Wednesday: A Christian Critique of Communism (Free Sign-Ups).
Whenever I meet a self-professed communist, I feel like I’m talking to a person who believes that they are ambassadors for the moon and thinks the moon should be granted a place at the UN Security Council. They are advocating for a place or a system that they have never lived within.
Thursday: Did 1 Enoch Influence the New Testament? (Paid Subscribers)
1 Enoch is a composite text comprised of several writings, containing many genres, and written over a century or more. Was this a text used by some NT authors? The answers is “Yes.” But as always, it is more complicated than that!
Friday: New Video and News of the Week (Paid Subscribers)
Video on Paul’s maranatha prayer in 1 Cor 16:22 as well as the news of the week!
Hi Mike, this is one week I'm especially looking forward to from your research and writings.
I've been praying for you and your far reaching ministry and mission.
I'm sure that your brothers and sisters in Christ, who benefit and are blessed by your good works are behind you in prayer.
