I’m so for the loss of your mother. Your post resonated with me as I’m walking through a very similar season this Christmas. May the peace of the Lord be a balm to your soul.

Thanks for sharing this, Mike. May you hold all the sadness and joy together with your loved ones. We just had the one year anniversary of my father-in-law's death by dementia (and Covid). I'm glad you got to learn more about your mother.

My dad died this past summer, and it has been a complicated grief, but it makes Advent all the more meaningful to me, to think about Jesus’ second coming and the renewing of all things.

Mike, how deeply our past complex relationships scar and shape us. I think that I can see within you, the Heavenly gold the light of life has deposited into your life. Like a true Pastor, you share our dear Saviour's gold of love with others.

We all love you, brother.

I’m sorry for the loss of your mother. I lost my older sister this year. I too had a rather complicated relationship with her but was with her when she died and my niece asked me to sing at her funeral. I am grateful that through Jesus we can navigate those difficult relationships It’s not always easy. Prayers for you as you deliver the eulogy for your mom.

Thanks for these thoughts, Mike. Please accept my condolences. During this last year, my own mother died, with whom I also had a complex relationship. I also had the privilege of presiding at her funeral. The stench of death hangs over our Savior’s birth now as it did 2000 years ago. But, because Christ came, the sting of death as any kind of final word has been removed. May the comfort of the Holy Spirit be with you.
